Four seasons underground Spinning tales Wasting away Screams in ultrasound Never even saw the light of day Back in the old schoolyard We were always scheming We'd run through the open fields We were always dreaming our way Through the undergrowth Down to the clear, running stream That was yesterday Now I'm still dreaming my way Dreaming my way Yes, there is more to life But I don't know the meaning I see the world and his wife Looks like I'm still dreaming my way Dreaming my way
2.
Before this tangled web was spun In flickerings of day Before this ragged race was run And we were things of clay I know that when you stood by me There wasn't much to say But I love you And you love me And that's how it will stay If you could see the part of me That waits for better days Seal your heart with patience And free your mind from pain I know that you will have no doubt And all will be made plain But in the meantime Listen up And wait for the refrain Hold me tight Don't let go When I'm here Then you'll know If I go Please don't delay To call me up It's easier It's easier that way Before this tangled web was spun In flickerings of day I loved you And you loved me And that's how it will stay

You were chosen At least you told us so You were frozen Under mountains Under snow And you rose to be called a prince In the place that you called home And you gathered all the people To your banner of desire You said you'd make a star of everyone You can try to lead me anywhere But I won't follow 'Cause my heart will not be there You can ride the waves of fortune In the dreamboat that you won But the tide of uncertainty Has turned before your eyes Left you high and dry in the sun These are the days of the innocents The ones disregarded The broken and downhearted And these songs are the songs of experience Of all the lives we've tasted Not one of them is wasted No not one I have been to where your rivers turn to mud And I have seen you With your hands all stained with blood And I've watched you on your warhorse Proclaiming plans for peace But the way to the future Is a road you cannot ride A path you cannot find And cannot see

Gently as the falling drops of rain Remaining when the sun comes out again With the summer scent of hayfields, wet with dew I close my eyes and think of you As I walked along the hedgerows You were there Through woods Across the greensward I could stare At the garden where I played when I was small Where the evergreens once grew so very tall O, I'd like to be there Feel the freedom that I had when I was young Ooh, if I could stay there Feel alive beneath the warm rays of the sun I dreamt last night They turned you inside out The rooms all bare Not a soul about You've changed inside Wear the same old face And to me you will remain a sacred place O, I'd like to be there Feel the freedom that I had when I was young Ooh, if I could stay there Feeling alive beneath the warm rays of the sun Gently as the falling drops of rain Remaining when the sun comes out again With the summer scent of hayfields, wet with dew I close my eyes and think of you

In all our stupid games Beat-up foolish ways A thread of life remains The teachings of the soul Strip us to the bone Leave us all alone Into this land will come The everlasting one And lead you to your home The kingdom of the dead Receding from your head Has a trail of too much sorrow To leave it all behind Is hard if you are blind To whom you follow From a myriad of dreams You waken and it seems Your fears had never been The mighty have laid down Their crosses and their crowns Upon the hallowed ground The kingdom of the dead Receding from your head Has a trail of too much sorrow To leave it all behind Is hard if you are blind To whom you follow

Lyrics O where has our kingdom all gone? The green grass stands all withered and wan The furrowed land spreads like the desert sands And all that we see lies in mean men's hands This is no answer But you don't understand How can we build Jerusalem In this green and pleasant land? Just look around you You cannot change the world Unless you understand the reason why we ever came so far astray O where has community gone? The helping hand to guide us all along Second homes round an empty village green Just a pale reminder Of an old familiar scene This is no answer But you don't understand How can we build Jerusalem In this green and pleasant land? Just look around you You cannot change the world Unless you understand the reason why we ever came so far astray

Born out of sorrow Raised up in the light You turned to your convictions And left the world behind You trod like an ancient Through the woods And rusted clays And you sang the songs of ages past Of golden, autumn days I will go with you To every shore Climb each woodland tree Walk every street We will marvel: 'Is this all we are All we want to be?' How can this be? Down to the ocean floor Up into the sky We wandered long And lingered short Till all had passed our eyes We saw the mark of everyone Wherever we did pass Each one stamped upon creation One for each of what we are I will go with you... Now the old times of innocence Have long since passed away We grapple with the knowing For our deeds we soon must pay When the battlefields are empty And the dues have all been paid We will love this land This whole land In remembrance of these days I will go with you... When the battlefields are empty And the dues have all been paid We will love this land This whole land In remembrance of these days

Flaming June 05:01
You needed space You needed air To breathe once more Without a care I was there in the beginning You weaken now You lose your hold Withdraw to days of endless cold There is no growth in such dark places I'm only thinking of you But I'm not thinking for you Oh no, no, no, no, no We've come so far And yet I know That I will have to let you go Where all in this same boat together The storm has passed It had to come Another morning A new sun A new sun - fiery, red and ruthless I'm only thinking of you But I'm not thinking for you Oh no, no, no, no, no I'll say farewell to flaming June Now dancing to a different tune But I don't know now where I'm going to I've said farewell to flaming June I'm dancing to a different tune But now I know just where I'm going to I'm only thinking of you But I'm not thinking of you Oh no, no, no, no, no

I'm sitting on my own With nothing but fear within I want to hold my own Cast these devils into the bin But then I hear your voice Ringing in my ears I know I've got no choice But to gather up myself And dry these tears I'm going back again I'm not turning back pages I'm going back again The crying of the soul Brings me sorrow And brings me shame Then the vanity of youth Runs roughshod in my veins And then I hear your voice Ringing in my ears I know I've got no choice But to gather up myself And dry these tears I'm going back again I'm not turning back pages I'm going back again And if my hope runs out And should my heart grow cold I'd want to call you out To gather up the pieces of my soul I'm going back again I'm not turning back pages I'm going back again And the fire within me Will heat my heart And heal my soul Yes, the fire within me Comes from where I do not know I'm with the fire within me O,o,o,o,o With the fire within me Don't quench the fire within you

Lyrics You've had it too good For far too long Do you think you'll last forever? As you stand in the midst Of a crumbling land Your time it is up And you know it But you soldier on With ruthless intent Executing your plans Till the people are spent And you think you're so right And the rest are so wrong But how long can this go on? In your eyes I see a hangman's glare To the gallows if we don't follow you From your mouth spew out false promises Fragments of half-baked truth And you soldier on With ruthless intent Executing your plans Till the people are spent And you think you're so right And the rest are so wrong But how long can this go on? You stagger on blindly Through shadowlands dark Can't you see what's in front of you? When you stumble You'll fall You won't pick yourself up You will tumble And down you will go But you soldier on With ruthless intent Executing your plans Till the people are spent And you think you're so right And the rest are so wrong But how long can this go on? How long?

The very day you broke my heart I slid away And stood inside the dark And I looked to the window And saw the stars And I looked to the vision So many days Fighting fear So many ways That brought me here And I look to the figure that bore the scars And I look to the vision Take me with you When you go We've got a right to roam We've got an open road Darling, don't you let me go We've got a right to roam We've got the whole wide world Coming round to this 21st charade I'm looking round To find the ancient spark And I look to the middle of Africa And I look to the vision Take me with you When you go We've got a right to roam We've got an open road Darling, never let me go We've got a right to roam We've got the whole wide world Take me Lead me Don't let go We've got a right to roam We've got an open road Love me Lead me Oh, you know We've got the whole wide world We've got a right to roam

Endlessly 05:16
If I could crawl into the cavern of your mind Hang up your silent thoughts Who knows what I would find? In the stillness of the morning Just before the world starts turning When the restless spirits stir From the slumber of the earth There I'll be and there I'll staying Looking out upon the day Calling me to join you if you can Your severed smile Betrays a mannequin of clay Your empty hand Belies the promises you made In the stillness of the morning Just before the world starts turning When the restless spirits stir From the slumber of the earth There I'll be and there I'll staying Looking out upon the day Calling me to join you if you can I'm a lucky, lucky son And I know just where I'm going And the river seems to run Endlessly Call off your vicious words The callous things you say Restore the inward part Before you're blown away In the stillness of the morning Just before the world starts turning When the restless spirits stir From the slumber of the earth There I'll be and there I'll staying Looking out upon the day Calling me to join you if you can I'm a lucky, lucky son And I know just where I'm going And the river seems to run Endlessly Endlessly

about

'A Wealden Odyssey' is a collection of songs written by brothers George and Danny Goring and recorded in various locations in and around the village of Warbleton, East Sussex between 1998 and 2011. Recently remastered from original mixes, the album reflects in part the creative DIY cottage music industry which came together for a short time in this particular corner of rural England.
